The Marcela potato is a medium-late variety developed in the Czech Republic and registered in 2005. It was bred by Sativa Keřkov, a.s., with the goal of achieving high yields and resistance to various diseases.
Characteristics
- Tuber Appearance: Oval-shaped with shallow eyes, yellow skin, and deep yellow flesh. The tubers are fairly resistant to mechanical damage.
- Yield: In official trials, Marcela's tuber yield was average compared to other tested varieties, with a low proportion of small tubers (6.7%).
- Starch Content: Approximately 17%, making it suitable for the fresh market throughout the winter period.
- Cooking Quality: Classified as cooking type B, indicating medium quality table potatoes. Cooked tubers have an ordinary taste, but they tend to darken quickly after cooking.
Disease Resistance
- Resistant to potato wart (pathotype 1) and potato nematode (pathotypes 1 and 4).
- Shows medium to higher resistance to common scab.
- Highly resistant to late blight in both foliage and tubers, as well as to black leg, early blight, and potato stem canker.
- Medium resistance to potato leafroll virus and high resistance to mosaic viruses.
