Organizers say cool, wet weather put a damper on the annual attempt in Grand Forks to set a world record for french fries.

The event dubbed the "World's Largest French Fry Feed"is held during Potato Bowl week in Grand Forks. J.R. Simplot Co., which has a french fry plant in Grand Forks, provides the spuds.

Company spokesman Scott Lund told the Grand Forks Herald that volunteers on Thursday fried 4,110 pounds of french fries, short of the record of 4,890 pounds set two years ago.
