The Idaho and Malheur County Oregon grow an increasing amount of non-traditional potato varieties, such as oblong, fingerling, and banana potatoes. Current regulations do not adequately address the unique varieties that are currently marketed.

US long Potato Imports impacted by Proposed Rule to modify Idaho Marketing Order
USDA-AMS has proposed a rule to revise the classifications that determine the size requirements for potatoes grown in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon. The proposal would also apply to all import of long type potatoes.

United States Potato Stocks up 2 percent
The 13 major potato States held 134 million cwt of potatoes in storage April 1, 2018, up 2 percent from April 1, 2017 according to a USDA report released last week.
In the retail segment, Lamb Weston reported a volume increase of 22 percent, primarily driven by distribution gains of Grown in Idaho and other branded products, as well as the timing of shipments of private label products.
