North-western European Potato Growers: harvest down 20 percent at least
The total potato harvest in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France in 2018 will be at least 20 percent lower than last year, according to the latest estimates of the North-western European Potato Growers (NEPG).

Aviko to close Amberger potato specialties plant in Germany
Potato Processor Aviko, a Royal Cosun company, has decided to terminate operations at its factory in Oberdolling (Germany). The Amberger factory will be closed before the end of the year.

Pepsico to acquire UK chips company Pipers Crisps
PepsiCo has announced its intention to take over the UK based snack food company Pipers Crisps.
Agrico presented the potato varieties Twister and Twinner also at the Bio-beurs. Their natural resistance to the major potato disease Phytophthora makes them very suitable for organic cultivation.

FAO Food Price Index slightly lower in October
The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 163.5 points in October 2018, down 1.4 points (0.9 percent) from September and some 13 points (7.4 percent) below its level in the corresponding period last year.

On Wednesday October 17th, a new french fry production line was inaugurated at the Leuze-en-Hainaut site of McCain Foods subsidiary Lutosa SA. According to McCain Foods, this Lutosa plant is now world’s largest fully integrated potato processing plant.
