Variety Description

Tempo is a semi-early maturing variety developed for the fresh market. It produces a good number of large-sized, high-quality tubers with an attractive appearance. The tubers are oblong in shape, featuring a very slightly curved tip, with smooth yellow skin and yellow flesh. Lenticels are discreet, and the skin retains a clean, unmarred appearance even after storage.

The plant is vigorous, typically producing around 14 tubers per plant. Tempo is appreciated for its productivity, strong visual appeal, and solid post-harvest skin quality, making it a reliable option for markets prioritizing visual and culinary qualities.

Agronomic & Culinary Qualities

Tempo has good cooking and taste qualities, maintaining its structure well during preparation. It's suitable for boiling and general household use, though its frying performance is moderate. The variety holds up reasonably well in storage and has average dormancy and resistance to germination.

In terms of handling, Tempo shows average tolerance to shocks and maintains its tuber structure and internal quality with minimal issues like hollow heart or cracking.

Disease & Pest Resistance

Tempo is quite tolerant to downy mildew on the foliage and demonstrates moderate resistance to common scab. It shows good resistance to wart disease and offers acceptable defense against viruses such as PVY. However, it is not resistant to nematodes of the Ro1–4 group, so careful field selection is important.
