Variety Description

The Irga potato variety is a medium-early cultivar renowned for its exceptional taste and stable yield. It features white to creamy flesh and falls under the BC culinary type, indicating a slightly floury texture suitable for various culinary applications.

The tubers are typically medium-sized, round-oval or oval-shaped, with a creamy-white flesh and light yellow to pinkish skin. Notably, the flesh does not darken after cooking, maintaining its appealing appearance.

In terms of disease resistance, Irga exhibits high susceptibility to Phytophthora infestans, the pathogen responsible for late blight. However, it shows high resistance to potato virus Y and very high resistance to potato leaf roll virus.

This variety is particularly valued for its culinary versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of dishes. Its stable yield and adaptability have contributed to its longstanding popularity among both growers and consumers.
