Greenvale expected a good turnout for the cookery demonstration which they sponsored at this year’s Turriff Show in Aberdeenshire, but they never expected a visit from Her Royal Highness The Queen.
The UK’s largest grower and supplier of potatoes, with a site at Burrelton, attended Scotland’s second largest agricultural show for the first time in order to promote its GreenVale potato brand. The company not only had an exhibition stand but were sponsoring the cookery demonstration given by Lady Clare MacDonald and supplied her with GreenVale potatoes to use in her recipes.
It was during this demonstration that a certain Queen Elizabeth popped in to observe the proceedings, casting her eye over the spuddy delicious recipes being cooked up by Lady Clare. Unphased by the Royal presence, Lady MacDonald whipped up a warm potato salad, potato pancakes and a potato-free dark chocolate and raspberry tart; chatting with Her Majesty about the recipes, whilst the team from GreenVale looked on in amazement.
Aside from the Royal visit, Greenvale’s presence at the show was a roaring success; with the team serving up GreenVale baked potatoes to hundreds of visitors on both days of the show and raising money for Scottish charities: Scottish Air Ambulance, Motor Neuron Disease, Scottish Huntingdon’s & Perth Autism.
Founded over 40 years ago, AIM-listed company Greenvale is the UK’s leading supplier of fresh potatoes, handling 500,000 tonnes of potatoes every year. It is a fully integrated potato business, from breeding and growing potatoes through to the packaging, distribution and marketing of them for the retail, wholesale and food service sectors, with a specialist food ingredients division, Swancote Foods. Greenvale aspires to deliver high quality potatoes day in day out to its customers who include leading retailers Sainsbury’s and Tesco and key food manufacturers Birds Eye, McCain, Young’s and Bakkavör. Its head office is in Duns, Berwickshire, with its key breeding and seed site based in Burrelton.
