Agriterra is an international agri-agency headquartered in the Netherlands, founded in 1997 by Dutch farmers’ organizations. With a mission rooted in farmer-to-farmer cooperation, Agriterra works exclusively with farmer organizations and cooperatives in low- and middle-income countries to build self-reliant, professional, and profitable agricultural enterprises.
Agriterra provides practical, high-impact support in four key areas:
- Cooperative Development: Agriterra strengthens farmer-owned cooperatives through tailored business advice, governance training, and strategic planning. It helps transform cooperatives into modern agribusinesses capable of generating profit, delivering services, and gaining access to finance and markets.
- Access to Finance: Through its “Financial Management Support” programs, Agriterra helps cooperatives become bankable. It builds trust with financial institutions and facilitates access to loans, grants, or blended finance instruments.
- Lobby and Advocacy: Agriterra supports farmer organizations in influencing agricultural policies. It trains them to speak with one voice, engage governments, and represent farmers' interests effectively at national and regional levels.
- Peer-to-Peer Advice: One of Agriterra’s most distinctive features is its deployment of agri-experts—experienced farmers, cooperative managers, and agricultural professionals from the Netherlands and other developed countries—to work directly with cooperatives in the field.
Agriterra operates in over 20 countries, including Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In each country, its programs are implemented through partnerships with local farmer organizations, NGOs, and government institutions.
