Soldier, Atlantic rower and motivational speaker, Rory Mackenzie, strives for success and is constantly searching for new challenges to test his own boundaries.
This November, 600 ticket holders to the sell-out BP2013 potato industry dinner, will get the opportunity to hear Rory’s inspirational story.
Rory was serving in the British Army, while on his first tour of duty as a company medic to the 2 Mercians Battlegroup.
Deployed to Basra, Iraq, his role was quite simple: help the wounded to the BP2013 main logo high res with Pot Rev included best of his abilities without getting wounded in the process. But things didn't quite work out that way and half way through the tour Rory lost his leg to an exploding mine.
“With a mixture of humour and humility, Rory will describe overcoming obstacles in his inspirational story that proves we can all challenge ourselves or our businesses to do great things, when faced with the extreme and the unpredictable,” says Potato Council director Rob Clayton.
Rory spoke at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games at the Olympic Stadium and has taken extreme challenges such as learning to ski with one leg, through to successfully crossing the Atlantic in a rowing boat in Jan 2012, with a team of former servicemen (two able-bodied and four injured).
“The renowned BP2013 industry dinner takes place at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate 27 November and is the ideal place to catch up with existing contacts, meet new colleagues and enjoy an entertaining evening,” concludes Rob.
Jointly sponsored by Branston and Grimme, BP2013 is the event dedicated to the GB potato industry and takes place on the 27 and 28 November at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate.
