Harm Kannegieter en The Potato Company (TPC) te Emmeloord zijn erin geslaagd om een veelbelovende nieuw aardappelras te kweken. Het ras is al op de Nederlandse (en Europese) rassenlijst is geplaatst.
TPC heeft al een grote afzet voor de 'Barcelona' gevonden in Egypte, Sudan, Marokko, Algerije, Spanje, Portugal, Griekenland Italië, Frankrijk, België, Hongarije, Slowakije en vele andere landen.
De Barcelona is goed in smaak en kan goed tegen droogtestress waar ook ter wereld. De eerste Barcelona’s uit Sevilla liggen al in het schap in de Europese supermarkten.
Het is nog nooit eerder vertoond dat een handelshuis zo snel nieuwe aardappelrassen in de wereld weet te vermarkten.
