AHDB Potatoes is encouraging seed potato producers to consider Cuba as an export destination after recent meetings with Government officials in the country.
The United Kingdom is a major importer of frozen processed potato (*HS200410). Imports reached 370.2Kt in the first seven months of 2017/18, an increase of 8.4% from the same period in 2016/17.

Scottish Potato Industry unites to fund major Blackleg Research project
In Scotland, a group of major potato businesses and public sector organisations have sponsored a £242,000 (USD 313,000) research project aimed at reducing the impact of potato disease blackleg on the Scottish seed potato industry.

United Kingdom: January Potato Stocks reach parity with 2016 levels
Potato stock levels in Great Britain at the end of January 2017 were at a similar level as at the same time in 2016, despite a four-year low yield, according an AHDB survey of grower stocks.

UK retailer Tesco introduces three-year contracts for potato growers and packers
UK Supermarket chain Tesco has announced it will issue contracts worth £12 million over three years to help support British Agriculture, and become the first retailer in the UK to introduce new long term contracts for potato growers and packers.
A poll held among the members of the Food and Drink Federation in March of 2016, showed 71% support for Britain to remain in the EU, while only 12% believed that leave would be in the best interest of their business.
