Descripción del Evento

On 30 May, in recognition of the United Nations’ International Day of Potato, the James Hutton Institute will host the webinar “Potato – The Path to a Bright Future”, addressing the challenges and opportunities within UK potato production. The event will be presented by Professor Ingo Hein, Head of Potato Genetics at the James Hutton Institute and Professor of Crop Genetics at the University of Dundee.

This webinar will feature six distinguished speakers who will explore key topics including emerging pests and diseases, sustainability and resilience in cultivation, evolving global market dynamics, and the regulatory framework impacting the potato industry. Organised by the National Potato Innovation Centre (NPIC), the event will highlight advances in scientific research and technology—such as precision agriculture, artificial intelligence, marker-assisted breeding, and gene editing—that are instrumental in developing sustainable, climate-resilient potato varieties.

Participants will gain insight into innovative approaches to disease management, regenerative agriculture, and efforts to combat blight, as well as the role of new facilities in accelerating the development of improved cultivars.

This webinar offers a valuable opportunity to examine the future trajectory of potato production and its significance for food security both in the UK and globally.
