The Nyabihu Potato Company, a state-owned potato processing company based in Mukamira, Nyabihu District, Rwanda, was established in March 2016.
It was formed as part of the Rwandan government's "Uruganda Iwacu" effort to add value to locally cultivated Irish potatoes while also supporting smallholder farmers.
The facility was designed to accommodate up to four product lines, including peeled potatoes, washed whole potatoes, French fries, and potato chips sold under the brand name Xtrim Crisps.
Located in one of Rwanda's volcanic highland regions, Nyabihu District, where Irish potatoes are a vital staple crop, the enterprise attempted to stabilize supply chains for over 76% of households involved in potato growing in the surrounding area.
