FAO Food Price Index up slightly in September
The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 178.4 points in September 2017, up 1.4 points (0.8 percent) from August and 7.4 points (4.3 percent) above September 2016. Firmer prices in the vegetable oil and dairy sectors were behind the small month-on-month rise.

China extends anti-subsidy duties on EU potato starch import for another 5 years
China's Ministry of Commerce has decided to extend anti-subsidy duties levied on potato starch imported from the EU for another five years. This despite the elimination of the EU Quota system for potato starch on July 1, 2012.

The FAO Food Price Index was down slightly in August
The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 176.6 points in August 2017, down 2.3 points (1.3 percent) from July, but still 10 points (6 percent) above its value a year earlier. The August decline reflected generally lower values for cereals, sugar and meat, which more than compensated for increases in the Vegetable Oil and Dairy Indices.

Starch residue in ancient tool proves potato use in Utah goes back 10,000+ years
Researchers from the Natural History Museum of Utah and Red Butte Garden at the University of Utah have discovered potato starch residues in the crevices of a 10,900-year-old stone tool in Escalante, Utah — the earliest evidence of wild potato use in North America.
