This year's Comber Earlies growers
Sales of Comber potatoes double in Tesco outlets

Tesco Northern Ireland’s commercial manager Cliff Kells has confirmed that sales of ‘Comber’ potatoes more than doubled, year-on-year, in local Tesco outlets during the months of July and August.
He said: “We wanted to champion the cause of Comber Earlies, given the tremendous work put in by growers and the other agri/food stakeholder groups to achieve Protected Geographical Indication, or PGI status, for these wonderful potatoes with such a unique heritage.
“It is often overlooked that we here in Northern Ireland can produce food that is on a par with the highest standards achieved throughout the other regions of Europe. And the ethos behind Comber Earlies is an excellent example of this. In order to make this a reality, we joined forces with the management team at Wilson’s Country, who came up with a truly innovative marketing campaign, designed to communicate the tremendous quality of Comber potatoes in a very positive and impactful manner.”
Here are the men behind this season's Comber Earlies crop. L-R Standing John Hamilton, William Gililand, Garth Horner, Paul Hamilton, Andrew Herron, Nathan Gilmore, Hugh Chambers, Stephen Christie, Richard Orr, Trevor Davidson, Ivan McKee, John Hamilton Snr, and Stephen Donnan.
Seated are Harry Hamilton and Ian Gililand.
The Comber Earlies are now available province wide in our distinctive neck-tie pack, in Glens Of Antrim packs and in Wilson's Country packs.
This covers all the major stores such as Spar, M&S, Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Centra, Lidl, Vivo, as well as many local green grocers in our towns and villages province wide. Make sure you try a bag today and enjoy your first taste of Summer.

“This gave a very authentic feel to the marketing of the potatoes as did our decision not to wash the potatoes. This communicated a ‘freshly dug’ image, which went down particularly well with shoppers,” he commented.
“The results of this year’s campaign are all the more remarkable, given the fall-off in potato consumption of recent years. I would like to congratulate the team at Wilson’s Country for the innovation they have shown in coming up with this year’s Comber campaign. And, obviously, we want to build on this for the future.”
